    • Circle photo of Kyle

      July 26, 2019
  • Getting injured used to mean spending weeks at a time on crutches or in a wheelchair but that’s all changing with knee scooters an alternative method of recovery. These wonderful pieces of medical engineering have changed the way people get through a lower body injury. What goes through many people’s minds are can I work on a knee walker? The great news is not only can you work on the knee scooter, but you can excel and continue your career. Just because an injury happened shouldn’t mean you lose the ability to work. In fact, we compiled a top five list of jobs knee walkers are essential for!

    Bruce from Allentown, New Jersey

     5. Musician

At number five on our countdown is being in a band. It’s a profession that requires a lot of skill and multitasking. Singing while playing an instrument is already hard enough but being injured and still going out there night after night is possible. If relying on crutches it would be highly difficult for a musician to play a musical instrument but having a hands-free approach to this helps mightily. A hands-free environment opens so many possibilities for our knee scooter users.

Think of all the wonderful things hands can accomplish when given the chance! Hands have created some of the world’s most amazing artwork, aided in typing some of the most well-known novels in existence and even helped create the soundtracks of our generation. Having a hands-free option for a recovery is such a benefit.
This was the case when Bruce from Allentown, New Jersey used The Swivelmate Knee Walker to continue doing what he loved. “I belong to a band in Florida and we were performing for a charity event. At the intermission, I rolled out to perform my Elvis routine! Needless to say, I was a hit.” It’s plain to see why being in a band comes in at number five on our countdown! Who wouldn’t love a knee walking Elvis!

    4. Photographer

Being a photographer comes in at number 4 on our countdown! Not only does being a photographer rely on getting the proper angles, but a lot of the worlds best images come from being outdoors. There are some amazing photos that can be captured.

How amazing is it that for just a fraction of an instant in time some of the worlds most well known photos have come into existence! This would not be possible if photographers were not there to capture these beautiful moments on camera.

When going through an injury it can make a photographer stir crazy not to be out in the world capturing moments that may pass them by.
    Camelia from Charleston, South Carolina

The knee scooter is changing the game and allowing mobility like never before! Camelia from Charleston, South Carolina was able to continue doing her favorite thing even while injured. “Taken on January 12, 2019 at the Audubon swamp garden, Charleston SC. I was photographing wildlife.”

Camelia was able to capture photos of wildlife while recovering from her injury. While also having use of both of her hands you can see the amount of comfort using a knee scooter can be for a photographer which is why it comes in at number 4 on our countdown.

    Allison from Berkley, California

    3. Scientist

Science has cured some of the world’s most notable diseases its also aided in transforming society into what it is today. Coming in at number 3 on our countdown is using a knee walker to be a scientist.

An important job that has a lot of responsibility science requires a lot of hands on ability. Using crutches is a simply limiting option so having knee walker is an enormous benefit.

Experiments need to be carefully handled so doing so while having the stability of a knee walker underneath all the weight bearing down is massive.

Allison from Berkley, California used a knee scooter to continue her job of being a scientist. “I'm a scientist at UC Berkeley and this knee walker allowed me to work in the lab just 10 days after a ligament reconstruction! This picture was taken in my lab where I was able to culture cells and set up experiments.”

The highly maneuverable Swivelmate knee walker helps scientists navigate the sometimes-cramped insides of the lab. You can see in the picture that Allison is able to comfortably get the scooter into small spaces and enjoy working on her experiments.

    2. Teacher

Teachers are essential especially high school teachers as they set these young adults up for life outside the classroom walls. This is why being a teacher comes in at number 2 on our countdown. Teaching requires movement which can include navigating around desks and chairs. It can also occasionally require walking distances around the school in order to get to certain places.

This might be a problem with crutches which can tire a person out quickly but the knee scooter glides easily allowing a teacher to better navigate the school and the classroom.

    Julia from Westminster, Maryland

Using a whiteboard/chalkboard also becomes easier because a person can have both hands to assist in this aspect. Julia from Westminster, Maryland was able to continue teaching her classroom in defiance of her injury and they all look very proud about that! “I am a high school choral director, and these are the students in my advisory.

hey are now seniors and have been with me since their freshman year. The photo is taken in the chorus room where I teach.” Julia also chose our Swivelmate model which is highly recommended for any teacher or high school student due to its mobility. Getting in and out of the classroom with ease is a must and this model allows for this to happen.

    Susy from Burbank, California

    1.  Surgeon

Our number 1 job knee walkers are essential for is being a surgeon. This profession is for those highly skilled professionals that assist in giving the best possible chance for survival. Surgery is a serious business and given the things that can happen in everyday life it’s essential to a surgeon to get back on their feet as soon as possible to continue helping those in need.

This goes the same way for animals as well and as we can see Susy from Burbank, California is using her knee walker to continue helping animals “At my job as a veterinary surgeon at a humane society”
Think of how important of a job surgeons have. They are responsible for performing the operation and providing the patient or in this case an animal with the post operative surgical care and treatment. Getting a patient back on their feet or paws is a surgeons job and they must make important decisions about the health, safety and welfare of the individual. This photo is the epitome of what people are able to accomplish on knee scooters. Aiding in so much more than recovery they assist with lifestyle decisions that can lead to an overall more comfortable recovery process.

Being a surgeon takes the cake for our number one job that knee walkers are essential for but there are so many jobs out there that knee walkers can also be utilized for an we want to hear from you!
