  • Why Is Laughing Good For You?

  • Laughter is good for you. From hanging with family members to meeting new friends’, happiness just feels right. When we laugh there is this rush of optimistic liveliness we get within our bodies. The feeling is unrivaled but at one point or another we have always felt it. Laughter establishes such a positive emotional response that it can instantly make two people have an impact on one another. The fact is, the more social a person is the more it might result in a positive connection between others.

Shared camaraderie between individuals lifts moods and elevates the essential healthiness that we attribute laughing to. By having daily reactions with people who make us chuckle and engaging with them it can improve the overall relationships that you have with them. No matter if there are memories of things we have done in the past or the constant changes that are happening during the present, amusement is the one escape from everything else.

    Why Is Laughter Good?
    woman laying on beach
Beyond making people feel good and energetic there is a good reason behind why laughter is incredibly important. Studies have shown that when it happens, our body triggers a release of pleasure endorphins in the brain. The release of such endorphins act as a sort of morphine like state and when we laugh, we feel it. The central nervous system is a complex structure of the human anatomy. Producing sensations that are thought of as natural highs the mood we perceive is acted upon by the tiny rush of endorphins. Above all else endorphins have also been known to reduce the physical and mental pain humans can suffer from.

    Burning Calories

Some of the benefits that come with laughter include burning calories. That’s right, laughing burns calories! As we laugh, we are using muscles throughout the body. We use muscles all the time but specifically when we laugh, we are using so many more muscles than you probably thought. When that squeaky belch comes out the muscles that reside in our diaphragm, stomach, chest, shoulders, and face get a decent workout. They clench together and if you have ever laughed to the point of falling out of your seat you will notice that your abdominal muscles can feel quite a workout.

    Relaxation

woman relaxingLaughter also has a way of relaxing the entire body which is why we feel so good when it happens. It’s been shown that during a period of laughter your body can actually be relaxed for up to 45 minutes after. This can have profound impacts on positive mental health which can lead to overall happiness. Depression is a serious disease that millions of Americans suffer from. Having a little bit of happiness each day is important in our overall mental strength and wellness. Millions of Americans are stressed out and that can come from work, family life, money and more. Just a small amount of happiness can have it even reduces pain.

    Reduces Pain

Laughter has also been known to reduce pain. This is a very true fact because many people who have had surgery turn to humor in order to help them best get through the pain. When a person comes out of anesthesia some of the funniest moments can happen. Even if it’s as simple as watching a movie with a loved one or family members after required surgery this can have a huge uplifting feeling which will contribute to a healthy and stable recovery.

    Lowers Blood Pressure

Oxygen is an amazing thing, when you look at how much oxygen plays a roll in our body you can have a deeper appreciation for how our bloodstreams carry it. As the person releases their happy little endorphins the heart rate, blood pressure and respiration to rise slightly. What this does is takes the that blood pressure and lowers it. Everyone is always weary of high blood pressure and the toll it can take on the body. Lowing blood pressure is always a positive in any way possible and laughter is one of the best medicines to do this.

Reduces Risk for Heart Attackshappy older man

If you’re at risk for a heart attack laughing absolutely has a positive effect with people who have heart conditions. How great is it that something so simple can have such a profound impact? By increasing oxygen inside the body, the flow of blood and increased function of your blood vessels will protect against possible heart attacks and other cardiovascular problems that can arise from an unhealthy lifestyle. This goes without saying stress and anxiety are other contributing factors but having happiness in your life will be highly beneficial. We only have one body so it’s important to treat it properly.

Be it friends having your back to family always being there when you need them the most having this peace of mind is always a great relief. Speaking about relief the ability to release your anxiety is a great thing. One of the things people run into the most anxiety about is money. Those little pieces of paper are so small but hold so much value. When we run into situations where money is an issue and bills begin to backup it has an impact on our mental stability. By having positive energy and happy thoughts this can all be remedied.
