  • We are going to Disney! Those five words may be some of the greatest ever spoken to the millions of people who visit the most magical destination on the planet each year! There are so many theme parks to choose from especially in the state of Florida. From Busch Gardens a roller coaster enthusiast dream park, to meeting your favorite princesses at a Disney theme park, having a dolphin encounter at Sea World or jumping into the world of Harry Potter at Universal the list of things to do is endless! Then right before your magical journey is about to begin you had to have surgery. How on earth will you enjoy your dream vacation now? People look forward to these trips for years in advance.

Just because you may have had a lower leg operation doesn’t mean your vacation will be lost, it’s the opposite way around. You have every opportunity in the world to enjoy everything these parks have to offer especially if you use a knee walker! These pieces of medical engineering have completely changed peoples lives for the better. This design allows you to easily cruise around the entire park with relative ease. No longer will you have to be bound to a wheelchair when you can be one of the coolest cats in the entire park. Not only do our walkers look good, they function extremely well outdoors. You will find cruising around parks to be a very pleasurable experience.

Knee walkers are an incredibly convenient to have at theme parks. Want to know what's even more convenient? Having a knee walker waiting for you right at the hotel when you arrive! We think this is a great option for people traveling to theme parks! By using Rent A Knee Walker we can deliver the model right to the hotel we are also conveniently located so if you wanted to come in and pick the model up the parks are not far away! One question you do want to know is do theme parks allow knee walkers? We did some research on some of the most popular theme parks in Florida and we have good news!

Are knee walkers allowed at Disney?

Yes, they are and you should have no fear because traveling with a knee scooter is easy. We have many ways you can enjoy your trip despite your recent set back.
    taking picture of Disney castle
At Disney we found that they do allow knee walkers. In fact down at the bottom of the page you will see some of our happy customers strolling around. Disney offers what is known as a The Disability Access Service Card better known as DAS Card. Disney states that "The DAS Card is designed to accommodate guests who aren’t able to wait in a conventional queue environment due to a disability (including non-apparent disabilities). DAS will be issued at Guest Relations main entrance locations and will offer guests a return time for attractions based on the current wait time." Make sure to visit guest services which are located at the front of the parks as soon as you walk in. Let the team members know the situation and they will set you up accordingly.

Are knee walkers allowed at Universal Studios?

Yes, Universal Studios does allow knee walkers inside their theme parks. The easiest way to best enjoy your experience would be to visit guest services as soon as you enter the park. Guest services assist with a wide variety of people who come to the park with a disability. The easiest way to enjoy the day at the park is to make an initial visit to this station and let them know about the situation. They will do their absolute best to accommodate you during the stay inside the park. If you have any other questions pertaining to universal studios you can get a hold of Universal Studios Guest Services and they will provide any further information on requested.

Are knee walkers allowed at SeaWorld? roller coaster sunset

Yes, knee walkers are indeed allowed at SeaWorld. Much like Universal Studios the parks have guest services located when you walk in. When talking with the guest services be sure to inquire about the knee walker and the assistance deemed necessary while visiting. The staff will work with the individual to offer the best experience during your trip to the theme park. SeaWorld has a lot of open space and most of the attractions including many shows offer handicap seating for guests with disabilities. The accessibility guide is a huge help and having this information will be highly beneficial during the visit. Check this out and it will save plenty of time.

Are knee walkers allowed at Busch Gardens?

Yes, Busch Gardens has a very friendly staff who will make the experience very pleasurable. By entering the park immediately to the left upon entering is the guest services. The guest services will ask questions pertaining to the injury so they know how to best serve you during the visit. When they are done asking questions they will give out a guest with disability pass. Upon receiving this pass it will allow the riders to skip the lines. Each line at Busch Gardens uses a turnstile so it would be difficult to fit a scooter through one of these. Instead when arriving at the front of the line you can flash your guest with disability pass. At that point the team member will usher you through an easy access point which may even involve an elevator. This is great service and Busch Gardens is one of the best at taking care of guests with disabilities.

    Guest Parking

    parking lot full of cars

So, the day has come you’ve packed your bags and you have arrived in Florida to start your magical journey cruising through one of the many extraordinary theme parks. It is very important to call ahead of time and ask the parks exactly what their policy on parking is. Disney has a guest service with disabilities guide which is very informative and gives details on each park. Disney's website also informs that "Guests with mobility disabilities—including those traveling with personal wheelchairs, electric scooters or other mobility devices—should park in our Disability Parking Lots, located a short distance from the main entrance to each of the 4 theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort. Courtesy trams do not stop at these locations."

This particular guide is very helpful and will give you all the information you need in order to best utilize your trip to the respective park of choice. With so many park options its best to be prepared in these situations. By take a look at the disability services it will give you a good idea for what works best for you.

    Know Before You Go
    water park
Before you get to the parks ask the hotel for a park map. This way you can plan out the rides you will be able to partake in and the ones you will not. If you don’t have a park map beforehand then once your adventure begins inside the park you will want to get a map ASAP. Make sure you keep a detailed list of all the attractions that will require the guests to walk. If there are rides that will require you to transfer into a ride vehicle. One such example would be the information that can be found on The Disney Website. When you do have an idea of which rides you will want to enjoy its going to be important for you to understand that lines can be very long. At some of the most recent attractions which have been added to Florida theme parks wait times can exceed over two or three hours.

    Guest Assistance

guest assistanceAs stated at the main parks above most of them do allow knee scooters. The best advice is to visit guest assistance at any of the parks. Even if visiting Gator Land, Lego Land, Six Flags or any other parks seek out guest assistance before embarking on a fun filled day. If you have not been to a Florida theme park in a while many of their queue lines are air conditioned inside, but some of the lines still require you to wait in that glorious Florida sun. If you have ever been to Florida from June to September, it's hot plain and simple. Some of the rides will have space for a knee scooter but some rides will not. Therefore, it’s so important to know if the ride has handicap options before waiting in line for two hours only to find out your unable to ride. Believe me I am 6”6 and have waited in lines for Six Flags theme parks only to get to the front of the line and be told “you can’t ride your too tall”. A very dubious problem to have but take our advice and do research before going to the parks.

Being that it's so hot in the summer time hydration is key. On conventional crutches there is no where to put a drink but on a knee walker there is a baskets for easy access to storing drinks and other loose items. You can check out some of those accessories here.

    Most parks will offer a
Guest Assistance Card. What this card allows you to do is get into alternative entrances. This is an enormous benefit for someone who can’t walk far. If you have ever stood in one of the queue lines they can weave back and forth. Some lines even require stairs so be sure to ask the guest coordinator at the front of the line if stairs are required in the line.

At Disney as soon as you get into the park, they have an option called City Hall. If you have a disability this is one of the first places you should stop inside the park. A cast member will be there, and you can explain your situation and the type of assistance you will need. This cast member will issue you a guest assistance card and any time special assistance becomes necessary you can show it to the cast members, and they will be more than happy to assist you. Renting a knee scooter to use at Disney is a great idea to help you through a vacation. The most convenient option is to rent your scooter and return it when you are finished with the trip.

These are some of the highlights that will best assist you on your journey to the theme parks. But don’t just take our word for it, we have had plenty of customers send us their photos enjoying the theme parks around the state. Below are some of their stories.

    Kelly from Pleasantville, Iowa

Kelly – Pleasantville, Iowa using a Swivelmate Knee Walker Everyone's favorite lovable snowman Olaf and of course my favorite accessory - the Swivelmate! "I broke the 5th metatarsal in my right foot two weeks before our Disney Cruise. I cringed at the thought of using crutches the entire trip. I searched locally and on various websites and found the Swivelmate on rentakneewalker.com. It was a trip saver! I was able to have a great time, as great as it could be with a broken foot, and enjoy some much-needed R&R. The cabins are small on cruise ships but with the Swivelmate I was able to maneuver around. I highly recommend the Swivelmate whether on vacation or not."

    Kimberly from Mission Viejo, California

Kimberly – Mission Viejo, California - "As a Disneyland Annual Passport holder I was devastated when I broke my ankle. The knee walker made it possible for me to once again go to the happiest place on earth!"

Lisa – Orlando, Florida using a Swivelmate knee walker - "Planned a beach trip for several months prior to being diagnosed with melanoma in my heel. Making the best of this vacation. Cinnamon Beach"
