Traveling with a Knee Scooter

- We can't predict when an injury or period of time to be non-weight bearing will be necessary, but you don't need to call off your trip just yet. Unlike crutches or wheelchairs, knee walkers are an easy to get around option for mobility, and allow you to do most things you would be able to otherwise. Below are some tips and tricks for traveling with your knee scooter, as well as our recommendation for the best model.
Can I bring my knee scooter on a plane? - Yes!• Keep in mind your walker will need to be X-rayed or examined when going through security. • There are less accommodations to be made when traveling with a knee scooter verse traveling with a wheelchair. The majority of airlines do not have policies against knee walkers on board, but you may want to inform them beforehand to avoid space issues as well as see if they can provide additional assistance. • The airlines treat your knee walker just like any other piece of medical equipment, or even strollers. You can take it right up to the gate, then they assist you to your seat and stow your walker underneath the plane. When you disembark, it is there waiting for you. • Exit rows and window seats are not advised when traveling with an injury, as it would be more difficult to get around if needed. Aisle seats are most comfortable, or bulkhead seats for extra leg room. • With fold-able models, knee scooters can be easily stowed in overhead bins. If not fold-able, it can be requested to be held and made available when unboarding the plane. • It is ill-advised to store the scooter with normal baggage, as there is no guarantee that damages will be avoided, or that the luggage will make it to your destination. 
Knee Scooters and Vacations• Knee walkers will allow you to do most things you would normally do on a vacation, like site-seeing, theme park activities and relaxing. You will not be slowed down as you would with crutches, and can rely on yourself for navigation as opposed to wheelchairs. • Public transportation is no problem with a knee walker, almost all models fold these days for easy transport in vehicles like taxis or Uber/Lyft, and easily fit onto a subway, train or bus. • If you are going somewhere that involves long lines or wait periods, such as Disney or any other amusement parks, knee scooters are not only allowed but also provide a seat for these wait periods.

Knee Scooters and Cruise Ships• Be sure to communicate with the cruise provider to ensure they are able to assign a cabin to accommodate you, the same as you would if you were using a wheelchair. • Using a knee walker on a cruise ship is great since you are able to cover the distance with ease and the slim size of knee walkers over a wheelchair makes it much more practical to use.
