Folding a knee scooter is important information to know. When traveling with a knee walker it's important to know the proper way to store the model for travel. When needing to travel to doctors’ appointments, physical therapy sessions, going to work or taking a vacation proper storage of your respective knee scooter is necessary.
Folding The Orthomate All-Terrain Knee Scooter
We will go through step by step on how to properly fold and unfold your Orthomate. We also have a video summarizing the steps at the end of this article.
The first thing you want to do is to find the release lever located at the bottom of the steering column. The release lever is a black lever that pulls up and locks down into position to fully secure the steering column to the base of the knee walker.
To unlock the Orthomate steering column you will want to untighten the release lever by pulling the lever up and twist in a counter clockwise rotation to loosen. Once the lever is loosened the lever can now be pulled down. It should be worth noting that when you pull the lever down the steering column will still be locked.
Some customers try and pull the steering column up at this current point and find out that they can’t. This is because another step is involved in order to fully unlock the steering column.
Unlocking The Release Lever
At this point with the control column still locked you will need to unlock the release lever to fully unlock the column.
While looking at the front of the model in order to unlock, place your thumb on the left side of the column. Place your fingers on the release lever and pull towards your thumb. Simply pull that lever to the left and the column will then unlock.
You need to hold the release lever and pull up on the column at the same time in order for it to release. Once the column is released you can let go of the release lever. Then swing the column down at your discretion to fully fold the model.
Once the steering column is in the downed position the model is fully folded. The model can be stored with the basket attached or unattached.
It's recommended you take the basket off if you want to save even more space, but some customers leave it on. It’s very simple to take this piece on and off so it is the user’s discretion for what they want to do.
How To Unfold The Orthomate
Now to unfold The Orthomate All Terrain Knee Scooter it’s the same process as folding but in reverse order. The first thing you want to do is to raise the steering column back into the upright position. Once the column is in the upright position, locate the release lever.
Make sure to pull the release lever back toward your thumb so that the steering column can lock into place. Then release the lever and the column can lock into place.
To fully secure the column, raise the release lever back into an upright position. Turn the lever in a clockwise rotation to tighten it. Once fully tightened you can pull the lever down into the lock position.
At this point the column is now completely locked. Push the steering column forward and backwards to double check that it's locked.
