  • If you have a knee walker, it is essential to adjust the height of your knee walker. It will allow you to ride your knee walker properly and enjoy all the benefits it provides.

Adjusting a knee walker to your height measurements is crucial so that you can avoid any secondary injuries or discomfort. It will allow you to ride properly and enjoy all the mobility and comfort benefits of using a knee walker.

You may need someone else's help in adjusting your knee walker's height if you're unable to do so on your own.

Here are two essential adjustments you have to make when it concerns height:

    Some Helpful Adjustment Tips

    Tip #1
Make sure you are holding on to something or someone for support while doing this step.

    Tip #2
Make sure to wear the shoes you would typically wear when using your knee walker.

    Tip #3
When making adjustments, do not over-tighten the bolt or knob.
The best way to ensure a safe adjustment is by hand tightening only.

    Knee Rest Platform

The first is adjusting the height of the knee rest platform.

Bend your leg that will be on the knee walker to a 90-degree angle as if it were resting on the knee pad. Make sure you are standing up straight and not leaning. Next, measure the distance from your bent knee's bottom to the floor (see figure below).

The knee rest platform pad should rest at the same distance as your bent knee while maintaining proper posture.

Most knee scooters have a knob or bolt that unlocks the knee rest platform so that you can freely move it up or down.

Set your desired height, and lock it back into place. Make sure that the knob or bolt is finger-tight. Double-check that the knee platform is locked in place and not wobbling.

While most knee scooters will fit most users, each model has different max and low adjustment limits. For a chart of such details for each model, check the graph in our Measurement Guide.

    Handlebar

The height of the knee walker's handlebar is the second adjustment you can make.

To avoid back pain and hip discomfort while you're using your knee scooter, make sure your handlebar is at the proper height.

    Adjusting the handlebar

The handlebars should be at the same level as your waist.

Your hands should be able to extend to reach the handlebars are a comfortable and relaxed distance.

Most knee scooters will have a knob or bolt on the steering column.

Unscrew it, and this will release the handlebar.

Move it up or down to set your desired height. Ensure to lock it back and that the knob or screw is finger-tight.

    Final Thoughts

To conclude, setting these two height adjustments will provide optimum "ride-ability" and comfort so that you can recover from your injury. Your knee walker is a valuable tool for when you need to recover.
