  • If you have a broken foot, knee scooters (also called knee walkers) excel at giving you the freedom and independence to move around anywhere you want with ease.

When it comes to the best way to getting your knee scooters up and down the stairs, unfortunately, the answer is simple. Don't! Wheeled devices and stairs have never been a good pairing.

It's highly advised to avoid trying to lift or carry your knee scooter through stairs when you're injured, especially during your non-weight bearing period.

But do not despair, there are alternative solutions!

Let's take a look at some tips from our customers on how to to get around the stairs:

    1. 1. The most obvious one is having someone to live with you carefully lift and carry the knee walker for you up and down the stairs. But in a lot of cases, you may be living by yourself or you may have a significant amount of stairs. If this is the case, let's keep moving down the list.

    2. 2. We recommend renting or purchasing two knee scooters, leave one on the first floor, and the second upstairs.

    3. 3. Use an iWalk in conjunction with a knee scooter so you can navigate stairs as needed. Although, this is not always practical as the iWalk can take some time to put on and off.

    4. 4. If you have a sturdy rail to hold onto, you can use a crutch as you slowly move up the stairs. Just like this.

    5. 5. If you have a small number of steps and have the space—some customers install ramps (also called mobility ramps or wheelchair ramps). Be mindful of your fitness level and confidence to go up and down the ramp.

    6. 6. You can set up a temporary living area on the ground floor.

    7. 7. You can stay with a friend or relative during your recovery if your house is not suitable for you to get around by yourself.
